How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

Over time, our teeth will gradually appear duller, greyer, and yellower. This is completely natural and does not have any adverse effects on the functionality of your teeth. Although, a bright white smile can add an air of confidence to anybody dealing with the issue of discoloured teeth.

Teeth whitening, generally, is the process of using bleaching agents or surface whiteners to change the appearance of your teeth.

You can use a teeth whitening tray at home on the recommendation of your dentist if you want to whiten your teeth with professional quality. If you’re only looking to remove surface stains from your teeth, there are other options available.

Surface whiteners are products such as teeth whitening toothpaste and gum. These products contain special abrasives that are finer than their normal counterparts—the finer abrasions in teeth whitening products are especially good at removing surface stains without causing excessive wear on your teeth.

Preventing Unwanted Stains

To prevent unwanted stains on your teeth try to avoid the excessive consumption of foods and beverages like coffee, wine, tea, and more vibrant fruits and fruit juices. Smoking can also cause discolouration of your teeth.

Remember to brush and floss regularly, attend regularly scheduled dental cleanings and keep in mind that your teeth may naturally grow duller and more discoloured as you age—it is completely normal!
