Dr. Jim Kivinen and Dr. Paul Kinson both graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry in
1978 and opened Upper Gage Dental Centre that same year.
Dr. Kivinen recently retired in order to devote more time to his two greatest loves: golf and grandchildren. He still works at the office that he helped to establish, although now in a behind-the-scenes capacity (and as long as it doesn’t interfere with his tee time).
Dr. Kinson practices general dentistry, and has thoroughly enjoyed serving the community of Hamilton for the past 30+ years. He specializes in restorations, crowns and bridges.
Dr. Matthew Rydant graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2006, and entered into private practice at Upper Gage Dental Centre in that same year. Dr. Rydant likes all aspects of dentistry, particularly cosmetic, family and pediatric dentistry. If he had to choose a favourite treatment, he’d pick endodontics: more commonly known as root canals.
Dr. Judith Kivinen joined the Upper Gage Dental Centre team in 2007 after completing a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2007.
Dr. Kivinen enjoys oral surgery the most, and carries out most of the oral surgeries in the practice. She also likes to use implants when possible to fill arches and replace teeth (single or multiple).
Dr. Rydant and Dr. Kivinen are married, and have three young children: Hazel, Noam, and Jemma.
Dr. Greg Wallace became an associate at Upper Gage Dental Centre in 2011, after graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Western Ontario’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Wallace joined our practice in 2011 and quickly became a valued member of our team. Although he enjoys all aspects of dentistry, his main focus lies in general and cosmetic dentistry.
Ryan Margel – Endodontist DMD, MS, FRCD(C)
Dr. Ryan Margel is our Endodontist who specializes in root canals. Originally from Toronto, he graduated with distinction from York University with a major Mathematics. In 2009, Dr. Margel obtained his dental degree from The University of Pennsylvania. He then went on to work as a general dentist for two years prior to embarking on a two-year specialty program at Marquette University in Endodontics. His Masters thesis investigated the anatomical complexities of molar root canals. Dr. Margel is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a member of The American Association of Endodontists. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, exercise, and traveling.
Our practice started as a friendly, family oriented practice and we’re happy to say that it has always remained this way. We are proud that our staff, associates and partners have kept our original office philosophy in place.
All of our dentists are members of the Canadian Dental Association, the Ontario Dental Association, and the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry.
